Pros and cons to having a GPS in the car

Technology is constantly booming for the past century, but the last 15 years has been a particularly crazy time for gadgets and whatnot. Cellphones, already ubiquitous, have turned into smartphones, seemingly few steps away from self-awareness. The internet, once exclusively the domain of nerds and computer science weirdos, is now a major hangout spot for most of the world’s population.

This major boom in tech has even found its way into the auto industry. And arguably the most important thing that fits this description is the GPS system. While not quite as common place as the smartphone, or Cash for cars Auckland, people all over the world have installed one of these amazing pieces of equipment into their car.

GPS stands for global positioning system, and makes use of satellites to triangulate the exact location of the car and a prerecorded voice gives instructions on how to get to a particular destination that the user has specified via the user interface.

The benefits of this are immediately obvious to even the casual observer. One of them is that the driver never need be lost in a strange city ever again. Another is the fact that the driver can find the best time saving route to a location via the GPS. This cuts down on lateness to important meetings, like the meeting you may have at the Car Wreckers in Palmerston North, and saves the economy a lot of money. They are small and easy to use as well.

There are cons to the system. An important one that isn’t often talked about is the fact that they are still quite expensive. They are usually going from $100 dollars to $1000. It’s probably better to spend that cash on Second hand tyres in Auckland.

On a cloudy day or under cover, a GPS can have its signal compromised. Another problem is the fact that a bug can cause it to tell you to use a direction that doesn’t exist, or does but for whatever reason you can’t actually go that way. These problems aren’t as bad as they used to be as the makers of these things are always diligently at work ironing these problems out so people will keep buying them.
