Selling your car can be a fun experience. That would be mainly due to the excitement of getting money, and ultimately getting another better set of wheels. A new vehicle that will take you forward into the future, a future full of new possibilities. But first things first.
The main drive that will be pushing you to do this is the money, and you want the most that you possibly can get. A fine goal indeed, but one needs to be on the ball and not make any silly mistakes. Mistakes that can cost you sweet, sweet dollars.
Following are five of those awful mistakes. Recognise them and take heed, in order to avoid them in your journey to vehicle selling greatness.
If you are in the process of selling your car and you have decided it doesn’t need a wash, then the question “what are you doing?” Springs to mind. You might think it looks fine, but believe me, a vehicle that hasn’t been washed is a car that won’t be getting the dollars it deserves. Old auto buyers will see it and think “ooh, cheap. A cheap vehicle for me to buy.”
Wash and wax that vehicle to within an inch of its life. Don’t forget to clean the interior. Remove all the rubbish and clean the carpet. Air it out and apply air freshener. Get dings and dents fixed. Your bank account will thank you.
Trading automobiles for new ones is a relatively simple and hassle free way to get rid of the old and bring in the new, both in one foul swoop. You will not be getting the best deal, but it’s easy. If you want the best deal possible, however, you will be selling privately. The dealership will save money off the value of your ride in order to cover the expenses that go into selling it themselves, as well as the fact that when they sell it they will be out to make a profit. You want that money. Don’t let them have it!
You really need to know how much your car is worth, because knowledge is power and this information will be instrumental in getting the right cash for cars. So research the net, go on to trade sites and see what people are selling the same model and year for. Because finding the value of your car is extremely important.
You will need the title of the car handy so you can hand it over to the buyer. If they have any problems with the vehicle this makes sure that you aren’t liable.
Don’t forget to keep all the receipts either. Proof of sale is a powerful weapon against losing money.
People with less than no scruples love using cheques. Because they might refer to money that doesn’t actually exist. Always insist on a payment into your bank account first, or cash.
